Halloween Festivities!!

So I know we are a few days into November, but I am just getting time to share some pictures from our "carving party". Halloween is one of my favorite parts of fall! Only once a year can you dress up and over indulge on candy, oh and also test your artistic skills on pumpkins!! We have started a new tradition and each year on Halloween, we get friends together and carve up some awesome pumpkins! We also eat fall themed foods and crank up Halloween music!! We always say each year we are going to get better and better at our carving skills.... I think we did pretty great this year...check em out.

the list is plenty of Thanksgiving festivities to enjoy with family, such a blessing to have loved ones all around eating some yummy turkey, pumpkin pie, and whatever else we can pig out on!!! Can't wait!

My Fall Decorations

I finally decided to put a few of my fall decorations out. I told my girls I wasn't going to do anything, I just haven't been in the mood. But when the weather cooled and it felt like fall, I had Mr. Sweet Pea drag a few things out.

This is Mr. Scarecrow. We'll call him Herman.



This was an old tool box I found in a shed and I turned it upright and made a shelf out of it. I was kind of proud!

These are my beautiful Petunias on my porch that I'm going to enjoy until the frost.

 

My youngest daughter, Molly, wanted Mr. Pumpkin out even though she is 18 and I didn't think she would care, she likes me to put out all the things I've had since she was little.

This post is a family affair since my daughter Ashley is helping me put up pictures. It is pitiful that I don't know how to do this yet. My girls call me a "technophobe" but I get by alright, thank you. I used to be the queen of speed typing when they were younger, and of  course now that they are grown they can type circles around me. I am pretty much turtle speed compared to them.

Anyways, it is good to have someone around that can teach you. After raising four daughters I'm surprised I have any sense at all!

West Jefferson Old Time Antique Fair

Hey y'all! Hope your Friday is going well and you had a great week. We have been feeling chilly temps in the morning here in NC and I am so excited that fall is here. This is my favorite season and I can't wait for the beautiful colors to start showing on the leaves. I am loving all the fall decorating that is going on in blog land...you are some talented ladies! Guess what, I have not put one fall thing out yet!! I know, I know shame on me but fear not (you were worried, i'm sure) this week I am getting all my stuff out and will post pictures..hopefully.

As Tara told you last week we took a trip up to West Jefferson, NC for the 1st annual Old Time Antique Fair. It was a beautiful day and we had such a good time. There were less than 50 vendors, so it was fairly small but we found  some nice stuff at great prices. We also went to two of our favorite antique malls while we were there. Here are some other random pictures from downtown West Jefferson.



After our antique hunting we were poor hungry so we went to Mount Jefferson for a picnic. The views from the top are stunning and on a clear day you can see for miles. If your ever in the area you need to go! I am so blessed to live in the NC mountains, words can't describe the beauty.

The next pictures are one (there are many) of the reasons why we love coming to West Jefferson. Driving through the country lets you see all the beautiful fields and barns. We are barn girls, just love them!! Also you can spot these quilt squares around but our favorite is on the barns. They are so cool and very pretty.

 

Now i'm sure you are wondering what finds we came home with.....

Mom got two quilts (one for $10!), a green handled strainer, vintage flower picture and a Bunnykins bowl. Tara got a quilt, Bobbsey Twins book, fabric stack boxes & Pyrex fridge dishes. I also found some pyrex, milk glass, vintage s&p shakers and a vinegar bottle. The tool box, wrench and Paden City Pottery plate were yard sale finds that Mr. Sweet Pea got the day before.

Just Around the Corner...

Hi all! So here lately in NC, we have been having some wonderful pre-fall weather! Nothing like temperatures in the low 70s with a light breeze blowing! So with the weather cooling down, you know the leaves will soon be changing. One of our family traditions is to go up to the Blue Ridge Parkway and see the beautiful mountains all painted with reds, oranges and yellows! Above is a picture I took last fall at peak color time! I can't wait to get back up to the mountains in a few months and get more great shots like the one above.

Speaking of things just around the corner, an exciting 1st annual antique fair is happening Saturday in West Jefferson, NC. We are so excited to go see all the treasures we may find!! We are also not promising we won't have stuff packed and strapped to every inch of the car. We might even look like that insurance commercial with the mattresses strapped to the roof of our car lol! 

One of our favorite antique stores is also in West Jefferson and we will definitely be paying it a visit! We will share all the things we find, also all the beautiful murals throughout the town. That is one thing we love about it....the history and southern charm this mountain town still holds!

The story of my cabinet

Well my girls made a blog and they are making me write something so here goes. My husband and I bought this cabinet at a craft fair. I was really into country and we fell in love with this cabinet. It had heart cutouts on the door and I loved it. It was unfinished, so we brought it home to finish. We had never done this before so we put the stain on it working in the bright sun on the front porch. We left it on for a while and then tried to wipe it off. Well it was already dry and we couldn't get it off so we were stuck. I was so upset, because it was so dark. We were just starting out, had just bought our house and we didn't have much money for furniture. I started hand sanding it and it got some lighter, but not much. After a while I guess I got used to it, because it didn't seem so bad after all. Fast forward 25 years. I decided to paint it. I love the green color, it seems to brighten the corner where it sits. My husband made new doors for it, (no hearts) and it looks totally different now. I love it!
